Posting this up, hoping someone can help out, i have a 2012 passat the low adblue indicator is on and will not go off despite filling tank to the top. The first thing that i was informed to try was to leave the key on for 30 sec to a min in the on position without starting, then turn to the off position for the same time period.

Having the same problem on my 2015 Passat. Just had the tech hook up the computer and reset the system, but I still get the warning that I need an oil change. The MFD shows 1/2 screens with the warning. Screen 2/2 tells me that he interval is 10,000 until next oil change and 20,000 until next inspection.

You should be seeing an icon of a jug pouring a liquid in the instrument cluster. If you see a wrench at the same time, it indicates a problem with the AdBlue/DEF system. Most likely cause is they neglected to refill DEF at the last service. 1.5 gallons = 5.7 liters. 5 gallons = 20 liters.
The system should reset automaticalkly when its refilled and the engine warning light sghoulodnt come on for low fluid so there is an issue within the system somewhere .The first step will be to get the car plugged into a diagnostic scan tool and read faults to ensure no issues with nox sensors or the pump and heater alement which are all
